Taryn Ward (she/her/hers) is in her third and final year of her graduate program at the College of William & Mary and is working toward her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While at Oak City Psychology, she is completing her practicum and serving as a Student Intern. Taryn is passionate about LGBTQ+ concerns and eating disorder recovery. 

Taryn attained her undergraduate degree at Monmouth College in Illinois, where she majored in both Elementary Education and Special Education and minored in both Psychology and Philosophy. Taryn has 10+ years of teaching experience at the elementary and early-childhood levels.

Taryn is originally from the Chicagoland area but has lived in North Carolina for nearly 20 years with her husband, two teenage children, and two dogs. Taryn enjoys running, hiking, trying new foods, and spending time with family and friends.


Elizabeth Johnson (she/her/hers) is currently a master’s student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the College of William & Mary.  She is excited to be completing her fieldwork (practicum and internship) at Oak City Psychology.  Elizabeth is passionate about women’s issues, helping those with anxiety and depression, and hopes to create a safe environment for her clients where they are empowered to live their most authentic lives.

Elizabeth earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Meredith College and her Master’s in Elementary Education and Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University.  For the past 22 years, Elizabeth worked in her childhood elementary school, working in various positions including a classroom teacher for grades K-4, an ESL teacher, AIG teacher, and instructional coach.   Elizabeth lives in her childhood hometown with her husband, two teenage sons, and two cats.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends, visiting Disney World and Universal Orlando, crafting, and learning about counseling-related topics.
